Report on the Wellington Training Development – by Tracy Coleman
Central DB recently ran a Daedo electronic scoring testing session, giving athletes the opportunity to train with the electronic system. Hosted at Wellington Institute of Technology in Petone, Wellington, the session was facilitated by Andrew Brooks and Tracy Coleman, both part of this years World Champs team.
The session was run as a full sparring session; after a warm up we got straight into two one minute rounds, circulating players against each other on a 6m x 6m ring. The players appreciated the time to use the gear in a non-competition environment. They were able to trial their game plans and techniques in a sparring setting, and adapt and evaluate what they were doing to work with the electronics.
Most importantly the session allowed players to gain a better understanding of the electronics and become more familiar with the equipment. TNZ is committed to developing athletes at national and international level. Allowing players access to the electronic equipment in a training setting is vital to building players confidence in competitions.
We look forward to hosting more sessions throughout 2018 and giving players the access they require to advance their sparring. Click here to see photos of the session.
